Keep calm and carry on! In a world in crisis, two major decisions have reignited a vital truth: when nations unite, we all move forward. In the face of global challenges, the will to act together is very much alive. That is a reason to hope and to keep going. First, a groundbreaking step: the International Maritime Organization has voted for the world’s first global carbon pricing system for shipping. This is a revolution for a sector that emits more than some continents. A decisive step toward a fairer economy and a more livable planet. This commitment is at the heart of the new global financial pact that France is championing with determination. The goal is clear: to reconcile the fight against poverty with the fight for the climate — to no longer choose between people and the planet. Another crucial decision: with the agreement in principle for a pandemic treaty, the international community is creating a new system to better protect us. Faster, more effective, more equitable, and more resilient. Collective action is gaining ground, for our people and our planet. You can count on my commitment, you can count on France.
