I just spoke with the President of South Africa, @CyrilRamaphosa. We had an in-depth discussion on major international crises, in particular the situation in the Middle East, the war of aggression waged by Russia against Ukraine in the context of Monday’s meeting in Washington, as well as the situation in the Great Lakes region. A few months ahead of the G20 Summit, I reiterated my warmest wishes for success to South Africa. Together, we will work with the South African presidency of the G20 to chart a roadmap towards fairer and more inclusive global governance, notably in view of France’s presidency of the G7 in 2026. We also reviewed economic and trade issues, as well as the bilateral cooperation between France and South Africa, which continues to deepen. We agreed to pursue our dialogue and to work in close coordination in the lead-up to the United Nations General Assembly, where we shall meet again in September.
